authority in people’s lives, but he does employ his pow ers to tempt us toward evil. The closer you are to Christ, the farther away you are from the devil—so keep close to Jesus. We must be constantly aware that Satan can take any human effort and twist it to serve his own purposes; this is why we are told to beware of Satan’s deception. Only God can thwart the plans of Satan and his legions. The cross was designed to defeat Satan. If a man will not submit to Jesus Christ, then his life will be controlled by Satan. While Satan cannot snatch believers from the security of God’s hand, he rejoices when we are inconsis tent, because he knows that an inconsistent Christian is an ineffective Christian. But if you are in Christ, Satan has no ultimate power over you. I have yet to see Satan overcome a truly joyful, Spirit-filled Christian.
