appeared and declared, “I bring you good news . . . a Savior has been born to you” (Luke 2:10–11). Night could never have a beauty of its own were it not for the glowing stars God has suspended in the sky. When God began His work of creation, the earth was covered with darkness. He said, “‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good” (Genesis 1:3–4). When I was a boy and dusk settled across the farm, my mother lit the lamps that illuminated our house, because our work was not done and we needed light. The Bible says the day is coming that Jesus will snuff out the dim light of this world, and His people will walk the banks of the River of Life in the light of His glory, hav ing been called out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9). And in that everlasting light our work— His work—will continue.
