Will Heaven be somber and serious?

T he Bible says that joy will be the heavenly mood (Romans 14:17). This is a theme referenced in Scripture nearly two hundred times! I can remember returning home from Bible school for the holidays, filled with anticipation. Mother had baked some of my favorite dishes and my father listened patiently to all I was learning. I wanted to show my respect and honor by taking seriously the investment they were making in my future and our home was filled with joy. This is but a glimpse of the relationship we will have with the Lord in Heaven. Our emotions and thoughts will be perfectly expressed before the throne of God. The Bible says the Kingdom of God is a place of “righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). The Lord said, “My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts” (Isaiah 45:12).
