John heard the Voice say to them, “Rest a little while longer” (v. 6:11 nkjv ). Here is a picture of souls at rest in the presence of God. While their bodies are still in the grave awaiting the final resurrection, God’s Spirit com forts their spirits because He is the God of all comfort. Jesus said, “[God] is not the God of the dead, but of the living” (Mark 12:27). One of the comforts of being a Christian is the glorious hope that extends beyond the grave into the glory of God’s tomorrow. As Jesus declared to the repentant criminal who was crucified with Him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43, emphasis added).
