How do we know our souls won’t be trapped in our bodies when we die?

T here’s one very good reason: God has promised to take us to Himself when we die. The Bible says, “We know that if the earthly tent we live in [our body] is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven” (2 Corinthians 5:1). Jesus said our souls, which are His very creation, are more valuable to Him than all the rest of the world put together. The Bible teaches us that our bodies are flesh and bone, and they will die eventually—but that we also are immortal, eternal souls. The soul (or spirit) includes our conscience, as well as the part of us that thinks, feels, and dreams. It will never die, but will live forever in either Heaven or Hell.
