If Heaven is real, what difference should it make in our lives right now?

T he privilege of being in touch with Heaven right now greatly enhances our time on earth. Knowing Heaven is real, and that we will go there someday, makes a great difference in the way we live. For one thing, Heaven gives us hope—hope for today and hope for the future. No matter what we’re facing, we know it is only temporary, and ahead of us is Heaven. The Bible says, “Though outwardly we are wasting away . . . our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (2 Corinthians 4:16–17). The Christian life is a joyful life. Christianity was never meant to make us miserable; the ministry of Jesus Christ was one of joy. The Bible teaches that a life of inward peace and outward victory is a Christian’s birth right—and our certainty of Heaven makes this a reality.
